What is ventilation equipment used for?

Ventilation equipment consists of system components used to renew indoor air, distribute fresh air evenly throughout a space and remove contaminated air. These components regulate airflow direction, velocity and volume while also supporting temperature and humidity control, indoor air quality, acoustic comfort and fire safety.

They are used in offices, shopping centres, hospitals, hotels, factories, production facilities, warehouses, restaurants, data centres and residential projects. Different types of ventilation equipment are selected to operate together according to the building function, room size, required airflow rate, duct configuration and comfort criteria.

Equipment for distributing air within a space

Air grilles are used to supply conditioned air from the duct system into a room or to return room air to the system. The blade arrangement allows the air to be directed in different ways. Single- and double-deflection grilles, linear grilles, door transfer grilles, egg-crate grilles and circular duct grilles meet different installation and air-distribution requirements.

Anemostats are air terminal devices used mainly in ceiling applications to distribute air evenly throughout a space. Available with square or circular bodies, they help spread supply air over a wider area. Flat-blade, curved-blade and marine-type models can be selected according to the architectural design, airflow rate and application.

Diffusers control air velocity and direction to create a more uniform air distribution pattern. Slot, linear, swirl, turbulent, drum and jet-nozzle diffusers are selected according to ceiling height, throw distance, airflow rate and room geometry. Swirl and turbulent diffusers promote rapid mixing between supply and room air, while slot diffusers provide a slim, contemporary architectural appearance. Drum diffusers and jet nozzles can direct air over longer distances in large spaces. Floor diffusers and floor linear grilles are suitable for air distribution in projects with raised-floor systems.

Louvers and outdoor-air connections

Ventilation louvers are installed at air intake and exhaust points between the outdoor environment and the ventilation system. Their blade design allows airflow while helping limit the entry of rain, foreign objects and other external influences.

Sand-trap louvers are used for preliminary separation before outdoor air enters the system, particularly in locations with high concentrations of airborne sand and coarse particles. Acoustic louvers maintain airflow while helping reduce noise transmitted from fans and duct systems to the surrounding environment.

Dampers for airflow control

Air dampers are used to regulate airflow volume within ducts, balance a system or restrict airflow when required. Circular and rectangular dampers provide solutions for different duct cross-sections.

Constant-air-volume dampers help maintain a predefined airflow rate. Variable-air-volume dampers adjust the airflow according to the current demand of the space, supporting comfort and energy efficiency. Backdraft dampers limit airflow in the reverse direction, while pressure-relief dampers provide controlled air discharge under specified pressure conditions.

Fire and smoke dampers are designed to limit the spread of flames and smoke through ventilation ducts during a fire. Fire dampers form an important part of system safety where ductwork passes through fire compartments. Shaft smoke-extract dampers are used in smoke-control and extraction systems. These products must be selected according to the project fire strategy and applicable standards.

Air filtration equipment

Air filtration systems are used to reduce dust, pollen and other airborne particles transported through the ventilation system. This helps protect indoor air quality and allows other components within the duct system to operate in cleaner conditions.

HEPA filter housings provide secure installation of filters in applications requiring a high level of air filtration, including hospitals, laboratories, cleanrooms and sensitive production areas. The filter type and filtration level should be selected according to the air-quality class required by the application.

Silencers and acoustic comfort

Ventilation silencers help reduce noise generated by fans and by air movement within ductwork. Circular silencers are used in round duct systems, while rectangular duct silencers are used in rectangular duct applications.

A correctly selected silencer reduces operating noise without creating unnecessary airflow restriction, contributing to improved acoustic comfort in offices, hospitals, hotels, meeting rooms and similar spaces.

Cabinet exhaust fans

Cabinet exhaust fans are used to extract contaminated, warm or odorous air from a space and discharge it outdoors. Housing the fan inside an insulated cabinet helps reduce operating noise and protects the equipment from external influences.

Different capacities and pressure ratings can be selected according to the exhaust-air requirement in industrial areas, commercial kitchens, car parks, warehouses, workshops and technical rooms.

Heat recovery units

Heat recovery units transfer part of the energy contained in exhaust air to the incoming outdoor air. This helps reduce the heating or cooling load created by the ventilation requirement.

Ceiling-mounted heat recovery units provide a compact solution for offices, shops, restaurants and commercial buildings where usable space is limited. Controlled management of fresh and exhaust air contributes both to indoor air quality and energy savings.

Access and inspection panels

Access and inspection panels provide maintenance access to dampers, filters, valves and other building-services equipment located above suspended ceilings or behind walls. They allow inspection, cleaning and component replacement without dismantling the entire installation.
